The goal of the course is twofold; the student learns:
- to construct question(naire)s to operationalize constructs;
- to use statistical procedures to measure constructs and tests hypotheses concerning these constructs.
Students are advised to participate to the tutorial classes. Participation to the SPSS practicals is compulsory. For the SPSS part, a few assignments have to be made in a satisfactory way.
The final score for this course is determined by the multiple choice exam at the end of the course. This exam will consist of 50 questions. During 3 lectures the students have the opportunity to make a midterm test that will be graded. Participation to these tests is NOT compulsory and there is no resit for these tests. If the student receives a grade equal to or more than 5.5 for a midterm test, than one wrong answer on the final exam is compensated. In this way a student can compensate at most three wrong answers on the final multiple choice exam.
A student passes the course when his grade on the final multiple choice exam is at least equal to 5.5 AND when the requirements for the practicals are fullfilled.
The SPSS practicals have to be followed in the academic year in which this course is taken. The compensation for wrong answers on the final multiple choice exam via the midterm tests is only given for the two exams that take place in the academic year in which this the midterm tests were administered.
|Concepts and techniques that are subsequently discussed are; association and correlation, measurement and measurement scales, reliability, validity, construction of questionnaires, exploratory factor analysis, structural equation modelliing, confirmatory factor analysis.|
