Aims
The present course introduces students to set up an inquiry into the field of digital literacies.

It does so by tackling society, the internet and the logic subsuming both literacy and digital literacy as an emergent characteristic of mankind.

In so doing the course wishes to unravel the implications digital networked societies have for literacy. In so doing students will achieve the following aims:

1, being able to understand the implications of digitalisation for literacies in networked societies

2. being able to set up a qualitative inquiry in the field of digitalisation of literacies and the inclusion/exclusion of people

3. being able to understand the drives and barriers that digitalisation of literacies brings to bear across the global technoscapes.
 
Content
The present course introduces students to set up an inquiry into the field of digital literacies.

It does so by tackling society, the internet and the logic subsuming both literacy and digital literacy as an emergent characteristic of mankind.

In so doing the course wishes to unravel the implications digital networked societies have for literacy. It does so by taking a closer look to the following three main research areas in digital literacies:

1. the digital multlmodal construction of a cultural canon

2. the changes brought into communication by the technological affordances of platforms such as whatsapp, twitter and weibo

3. the implications of digital literacies for societal inclusion and exclusion
