The present course introduces students to the interpretive ethnographic tradition showing that ethnography is much more than just a method for data collection. Rather ethnography is an epistemological and ontological industry which has its roots in anthropology and which fundamentally wishes to unravel how people tick together in social processes.

In so doing therefore students will be presented with the following aims:

1. to know and understand the epistemological as well as ontological basis subsuming ethnography and being an ethnographer

2. understanding how to carry out an ethnographic analysis of interviews and of interactional audio based and video recorded data following the Key Incident Analysis approach

3. build their characters into ethical ethnographers respectful of social sciences conventions present in the field.
