Aims

Specifics

The international traineeships are bound to strict regulations (see guidelines made available on BlackBoard).

The international traineeship takes on a pass/fail grade. The traineeship is completed by a report describing the activities. The report has to be approved by the supervisor and minor coordinator. Only if the reported has been approved students pass the course.

The international traineeship has 3 ECTS, which equals 84 hours. The composition of the hours depends on the choice of international traineeship.

  • Conference: On average, 20 hourse for writing and submitting a proposal, 40 hours for writing and practising the presentation, and 24 hours for attending the conference and giving the presentation.
  • Summer school: For a two-week's course at a summer school (2 * 40 hours), the 84 hours  will be spent on preparation and following the course.
  • Conducting research abroad: Students have to conduct research at a foreign university for at least two working weeks (2 * 40 hours). The 84 hours are spent completely on conducting research.

Required Prerequisites

Only for students who are qualified for the Research Master.
Content

The objective is to get students acquainted with scientific research and researchers abroad. Students can complete the international traineeship in three ways: Presenting research at an international conference, attending a summer school, or conducting research abroad.

Presenting research at an international conference requires a large amount of preparation. First, students must apply to present a paper or a poster, and submit an abstract. Second, if the application is accepted, they must make a presentation at an international scientific level. Besides giving their own presentation, students must attend the entire conference (2 or 3 days on average) so as to meet different international researchers and their research.

Students who go to a summer school follow an entire course (minimum of two complete working weeks) and complete all assignments.

Students who conduct research at a university abroad follow the program that has been set by that university.
