1. The student can write a thesis plan including a topic selection, the formulation of a research question, a specification of the research methods, and a provisional table of content.
2. The student can do detailed bibliographical research and make a basic biography for his or her thesis.
In case the student has chosen the extended master, he or she drafts the thesis in the form of an academically founded policy report. The thesis plan will have a provisional character due to the expectations at the place of internship. It then should include a planning for the internship.
In the seminar, students will prepare for writing a Master's thesis. The first part of the seminar will result in a thesis plan in which students: select a research topic, formulate the leading research question, specify their research method(s) and draw up a provisional table of contents and a basic bibliography. Students will be given criteria and instructions, they will search for an appropriate supervisor, and, if necessary, second supervisor. They will give a presentation of their thesis plan, and comment on the presentations of fellow students. This part is finished when the proposed supervisor(s) and the non-supervising examiner have officially approved the plan.
In the second part of the seminar when the actual writing process takes place, there will be meetings in which students present sample writings of their work-in-progress and give feedback to each other.
