As overall purpose, it is intended that you learn to handle the instruments of the poimenic, diaconic, and prophetic dimensions of pastorate. However, the term 'instrument' must be understood in a practical-theological manor: it is not the intention to present fixed tools that can be used in pastoral practice immediately. There will be dialectic between practice and scientific reflection instead. You can therefore improve your own capacities to reflect on your experiences in pastoral training (and also on the experiences of others). You also learn to judge these experiences and to analyse them in writing. On the other hand these analyses will be confronted with relevant practical-theological theories, mainly from the disciplines of poimenics and diaconics.
Participation in the course must be combined with the pastoral training.
The course is organized in process. It starts with an introduction into the theory of science, which lies on the background, and with an introduction into the different domains of pastoral care. The course ends with presentations of the students about their individual learning-process. In between that, each time two meetings are connected. In the first meeting the pastoral analysis of one student will be discussed. We focus on the relevant poimenic and diaconic topics. In the second meeting these topics will be consolidated on the basis of practical-theological literature.
