This course prepares students to perform their own empirical research.
The course integrates Human Resource Studies and methods courses. Students develop skills in: 
  • Developing a conceptual framework, including making a good selection of literature, build a conceptual model, formulation of research questions and hypotheses.
  • Writing an academic paper according to APA style. Special attention to: Effective writing for academic audiences (text structure, effective paragraphing, writing in English), building arguments from theory and previous research.
  • Data collection and research ethics.
  • Analyse questionnaire data, apply statistics and use SPSS independently.
  • Reporting statistics in a paper.
  • Interpretation and discussion of results in comparison with existing theoretical and empirical literature.
  • Improving academic skills such as analytical skills, critical reflection, giving and receiving effective feedback, presenting research.
The course is open only for Pre-Masterstudents Human Resource Studies.
Students in small groups write a research noter according to an empirical reseach that they themselves execute. The theme of the paper will be announced during the first lecture. All steps of the empirical research process are addressed during the course.
First, students do a literature research, and develop a conceptual model. Then they explore availabile data already collected about a specific topic. Next, data analyses like factor,regressions analyses or moderation or mediation analysis will be done. Finally, results are interpreted and discussed in comparison with existing theoretical and empirical literature. This process is reflected in a group paper in the form of an research note. In the end, everybody's individual knowledge of the paper is tested in an oral exam.
