Aims
The course Academic Skills teaches you the basics of finding and using scientific sources and writing at an academic level. The knowledge and skills you gain here will then continue to expand throughout the rest of your education. They will be regularly tested in other subjects and will certainly also be discussed in the final thesis.
Content
This course consists of two modules, which are briefly described below. The average number of hours study workload (HSW) you spend this period on the various modules is stated. During the programme you will find out that the knowledge and skills you gain in the different modules can be used well for both the other modules of this course and the other courses within your bachelor. So be creative and inventive, be active as the owner of your own learning process but at the same time follow the instructions in this study guide, on Blackboard and of the lecturers.

1. Information skills (5 HSW)
The core of information skills consists of collecting information for, for example, a paper or your thesis. In this part of the course you will therefore get to know the scientific databases and the different ways in which you can find useful sources in an efficient (fast) way. This is done by going through a number of online modules which end in a multiple choice test.

2. Writing skills (79 HSW)
During writing skills you will be introduced to writing academic papers. It gives you insight into the specific requirements that are imposed on papers at a scientific level, including the correct use of sources. You do this by following a lecture and by actively participating in a number of seminars. Before and after the seminars, you complete assignments, work on your paper, give feedback and receive feedback from your fellow students. Presence and active participation in the work seminars and feedback is a mandatory part of this module.
