In order to achieve a comparative advantage it is essential for companies to have a good strategy. The formulation of an optimal strategy is complex because of company characteristics as well as due to industry and general environment characteristics. Changes in the internal and external of the company can change the optimal strategy. Therefore the optimal strategy is a dynamic concept. Making an internal and external analysis of a company is an important first step in the formulation of the optimal strategy. Many of the elements for such an analyses are already dealt with in the first year of the Bachelor Business Economics. In this course students make in teams of four an extensive internal and external analysis of an existing company and provide the company with an advice about issues that the should take into account in the formulations of a future strategy. The course pays attention to “collaboration in teams” as well. During the course, students test themselves in order to determine what type of person they are and how it influences among others the cooperation with peers. The aim is that students develop their skills through understanding their own strengths and weaknesses and know how to cope with the strengths and weaknesses of others.|
