Aims
The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the scientific literature on empiricalcorporate finance. The course follows the theoretical and empirical part of Corporate Finance1 as well as the theoretical courses Micro 2 and Information Economics (contract theory). The emphasis in CF2 is to introduce a wide range of empirical research domains, to discuss identification strategies, to teach the appropriate econometric estimation techniques, and to develop empirical research strategies. Each class will focus on a single topic and discussdifferent research designs and econometric approaches.
Specifics
Each lecturer's part will count for 50% of the final grade. In order to pass the course, students must pass each part. The final grade will be based on:


For Luc Renneboog's part:
  • The writing of a referee report (10% of the final grade)
  • The writing of a research proposal (25% of the final grade)
  • Class participation (with presentations, 15% of the final grade)

For Jasmin Gider's part:
  • Assignments during the course, consisting of smaller empirical assignments and research questions (20% of the final grade)
  • Presentation of a paper (10% of the final grade)
  • Discussion of a paper (10% of the final grade)
  • Research proposal due at the end of the class (10% of the final grade)

Content
The course consists of 12 lectures of three hours. In order to better understand the material and participate more actively in class, students are required to read the material (labelled as mandatory reading) for each lecture prior to each class.
